Strikes, Delays & Construction

The chances of being in France during a strike, or grève, are actually quite high, since they occur on an almost regular basis. Visitors shouldn’t panic. Most strikes only last a day or two, and there’s always a guaranteed minimal service of buses, Métros and RERs to keep things from completely shutting down (but they can be horrendously crowded).

Taxis are almost impossible to find (and can barely move, anyway) if there’s a strike manifestation (street demonstration), so it may be best to get around on bike or on foot. Your hotel concierge should be able to give you information on getting around and to the airport on time. Otherwise you can check the RATP website (this section in French only) for all service interruptions including construction (travaux) and demonstrations (manifestations); or listen to the free (really!) recording at 0800 15 11 11.
