The Y&H is a modern youth hostel (not that you have to be young to rent a bed there) in a centuries old building on the charming market street, Rue Mouffetard.
Rooms have private sink and shower and bunk beds, an outlet to charge your cell phone, and the lobby bar has daily papers and an Internet station. There are board games, playing cards, maps of Paris and TV. Breakfast (included in the room rate) is down in the vaulted stone cellar like most breakfast rooms in Paris hotels. Breakfast consists of coffee or tea, a slice of baguette with butter and choice of jams, and a glass of OJ.
The street is packed full of bars, cafés, food shops, and the daily market (except Monday). The nearest metro, Place Monge, is two blocks away. This is a generally safe student district in the heart of the Latin Quarter.
There used to be a curfew, but now the hostel is open 24hours (lockout 11am-4pm for cleaning). If you’re traveling on your own hostels are a pretty good deal, just don’t forget to pack the earplugs if you’re a light sleeper! Prices are €24-€26 per night in a dorm, double rooms from €28/person.
