www.hotel-la-manufacture.com

A modern little budget hotel in a typical Parisian neighborhood on the south end of the Latin Quarter.

Rooms

They are clean and freshly painted in bright colors like pink or yellow, with basic modern furnishings for a general Ikea vibe. There are several triples and eight sets of connecting rooms for families; get the largest room you can afford, as they run on the small side, even by Paris standards. The most expensive top-floor rooms are more spacious and some have views of the Eiffel Tower or Panthéon. Other rooms face the 19th-century Town Hall building or the local police station. Rooms on the 2nd and 5th floors have small balconies. If you're a light sleeper, bring ear plugs, as the occaisonal police siren, road traffic, or clock bell from the town hall could wake you.

Facilities

There is WiFi (although not free), a bright breakfast room and bar off the lobby, and air conditioning in the rooms. And for car parking: 100 meters away from the hotel is the parking garage Park Salpêtrière at 82 Boulevard de l’Hôpital, near the Total gas station, for only €20 per day.

Neighborhood

This is a great area if you want to experience a "real" Parisian residential district. It's on the south end of the Latin Quarter, a few blocks from the Mouffetard Market, on a small street just off the Place d'Italie, a large square with three metro lines, six bus lines, small green spaces, a shopping mall, and the Mairie du 13eme (Town Hall for the 13th Arrondissement). You're a short stroll to Chinatown, the Jardin des Plantes and the charming Butte aux Cailles, a hilltop district full of cafés and budget-friendly restaurants. Three times a week is the open-air market on the Avenue Auguste Blanqui, just off the square. The main road off the hotel's street, Avenue des Gobelins, has cinemas, bakeries, cafés, clothing and food shops, and wide tree-lined sidewalks. The hotel is named for La Manufacture des Gobelins, the 400-year-old tapestry manufacturer down the street (tours available). There is a police station just across from the hotel, but even if there wasn't this is considered a very safe place to walk at any time of the day or night. The center of Paris (Louvre, Notre Dame) is 15 minutes away by bus or metro.

Rates

Internet rates start at €90 for a double in mid-season.
